it’s not everyday one sees a sanctioned twelve mile race for 17 foot aluminum touring canoes in Florida. Lucky for us, we caught an invite to to the Cocoplum Paddle Fest in North Port, Florida. And a windy, chilly morning couldn’t hold back a stalwart crowd of eager competitors.
Unlike most beach events with an overwhelming amount of SUPs, Surf Skis, and Outrigger Canoes, this U.S. Canoe Association race was dominated by classic canoes and touring kayaks. Adding tribute to the roots of American flat water paddle racing.
Staying with the times, Cocoplum was open to Paddle Boards and Surf Skis, with a solid contingent in both classes. From nationally ranked competitors to first timers, like most paddle events, the feel was one of mutual support and camaraderie. The best of the best were on hand to cheer everyone behind them. Just another fine example paddle race stoke.
